What Might Have Been

Hear
Her parent’s laughter as her father swings her mother onto his lap. The happiness in their voices as they talk to each other, joked with each other and to her, their one and only daughter. They were a family, a happy family who smiled and laughed and loved. Together.

Feel
The sun on her shoulders as she stands with her friends, who are yet again exploiting her gullibility and her innocence. This is how high school is supposed to be – surrounded by a group of friends. They would do anything for her, as she would for them (well, except for maybe Dick).

Taste
Logan’s lips on her own as she kisses her boyfriend (vanilla with a slight hint of mint). Each kiss always tastes differently to the last. Their love is epic, a cliché love story of two best friends falling in love in high school, to go through college together, and then marriage, and then a family... (or that’s how she pictures it, anyway).

See
Wallace Fennell’s almost unreadable face as she hands back his gown. The revealing look in his eyes – so cold, angry, but most of all lonely. Wallace as he blends back into the crowd, as if he was purposely trying to disappear. She had never met someone who was so alone.

Smell
The scent of Lily’s gorgeous blonde hair as she hugs her, enjoying the combination of strawberries and citrus that is so uniquely Lily. The hint of booze, sex and experience that was flowing from her body. If high school was a blast, joining her BFF at college was going to be an explosion.

Even as she wakes and the details of the dream start to slip from her grasp, these five senses remain. Over time as she suffers through life’s many twists and turns, the memory stays inside her mind as a vivid reminder of what might have been.

52 Movies in a Year

I remember once talking to somebody on the internet, and they said they they were trying to read 52 books in a year (1 book a week average). Since then, I've thought this was an awesome idea and always wanted to do it too. But I just don't have the time to read a whole book every week. However, I do often watch atleast a movie a week. So, I'm happy to present: 52 Movies in a Year! I'll update my progress every few weeks, and try and include some stats on my movie watching.

NB: I'm only counting movies that I have seen in theatres.

1- National Tresure: Book of Secrets
2- Cloverfield

Toilet Signs Across The World

Funny article from Wacky Archives:

Toilet Signs Across The World

But I disagree with one: One lists ZZ under the female sign and WZ under the male sign. But in actuality, it's the other way around: see wikipedia.

Mama's Boy Review

+about. A twenty-nine year-old slacker who lives with his mom realizes his sweet set-up is threatened when she hears wedding bells with her self-help guru beau. imdb//trailer

+my opinion. This movie was absolutely terrible. It was pointless and forgetful, and I can't believe I lasted the whole film. It didn't make a whole lot of sense, and wasn't really all that funny. Jon Heder is really starting to get a bit typecast - I think he's a good actor, but I'd love to see him in something serious for once. I half expected him to say "Gosh!" halfway through the film.

Iron Man Review

+about. When wealthy industrialist Tony Stark is forced to build an armored suit after a life-threatening incident, he ultimately decides to use its technology to fight against evil. imdb//trailer

+my opinion. Awesome film! I knew it was going to be great, but I didn't expect it to be as funny as it was. I loved that the film had enough guts to crack jokes in the middle of an action scene. This film was very cool and quite different to most typical superhero movies.

What Happens In Vegas Review

+about. Set in Sin City, story revolves around two people who discover they've gotten married following a night of debauchery... imdb//trailer

+my opinion. What a fantastic film! It was sweet and romantic, but also hilariously funny and very realistic! Well, except for the judge in the court, I'm not too sure if I buy into that. But the chemistry between Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher was very real, and their characters and their reactions to situations were completely believable. While the ending was predictable and conventional, I still liked the way that they did it. Actually, I think most typical movies would have ended a few scenes earlier when they kissed while dancing, but this movie had the guts to go on a little bit further ;). The scene of after the credits = classic.

+qotf. You know why. -- Tipper

Made of Honor Review

+about. A guy in love with an engaged woman tries to win her over after she asks him to be her maid of honor. imdb//trailer

+my opinion. As much as I love both Patrick 'McDreamy' Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan (only good thing about the movie The Heartbreak Kid), this movie just didn't overly impress me. It was too predictable, too much was given away on the trailers, and I spend most of the movie waiting for the twist that just never happened. And I don't really get why she was so desperate to marry this guy - when she found out about the hunting and bagpipe-playing she seemed put-off, but not enough to leave the guy? Also, not a single person (McDreamy's character included) bothered to ask her if she was moving too fast with this guy? I wasn't buying it. Cute, but a bit boring and not really worth the bother.

+qotf. I'm crazy about you. I think about you all the time and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. -- Tom.

Spiderwick Chronicles Review

+about. Upon moving into the run-down Spiderwick Estate with their mother, twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace, along with their sister Mallory, find themselves pulled into an alternate world full of faeries and other creatures. imdb//trailer

+my opinion. This film was fantastic! I haven't read the books, but still managed to understand it perfectly and it went at just the right pace. Of course, having not read the books then I have no way of knowing what I missed (I will read them someday though, lol). It was very scary and not at all predictable, I'll even admit that I was sucked in by a false ending! And the real ending was hilarious and completely unexpected! Freddie Highmore was yet again fantastic - in fact if I didn't know who he was I never would have guessed that he was playing both twins! This was a very cool movie, the acting was spot on and the effects were incredible!

Dan In Real Life Review

+about. A widower finds out the woman he fell in love with is his brother's girlfriend. imdb//trailer

+my opinion. I loved seeing Steve Carrell in this type of film, in fact I think I liked it more than I like his usual stuff. The dynamics between him and his daughters, and him and his family was fantastic, really made it a tear-jearking yet heartwarming film. However, I'm not buying the main character's romance so much. Dan seemed to fall in love with her far too quickly, and even though I know that was the whole point, they character's just didn't have enough chemistry to pull it off convincingly. Marie's feelings towards Dan were also left rather sketchy for most the movie, and she seemed to randomly flipflop between who she wanted to be with.

+qotf.
Cara: You don't have to worry because when it comes to sex, Marty is the one that wants to wait.
Dan: What part of that sentence is supposed to make me feel better?

St Trinians Review

+about. St Trinian's, a school for "young ladies" with its anarchic doctrine of free expression, brings together a motley crew of ungovernable girls who, using their wit and ingenuity, save the school from bankruptcy. imdb//trailer

+my opinion. Now, I'm not too sure if I love or hate this film, or both. I think it might be both. The film was both both insane and charming, and kinda had me a little bit scared by the end of it. I certainly won't ever see Rupert Everett in the same way ever again. Or Colin Firth either, for that matter. Random thought: the music in this film ROCKS!

+qotf. Daddy, you can't expect me to stay here. It's like Hogwarts for Pikeys! -- Annabelle

Nim's Island Review

+about. A young girl inhabits an isolated island with her scientist father and communicates with a reclusive author of the novel she's reading. imdb//trailer

+my opinion. Since I am absolutely enchanted by Abigail Breslin, I figured I was going to love this film from the moment I saw the trailer. And I did ;). Sure, it was just a kid's movie and had a very basic plot, but it was cute and fun and very enjoyable. And I'll admit that I even got a little teary eyed in a few scenes. I kinda liked the scene between Edmund and Nim, even if it was very brief - had to scold myself and tell me that they are far too young to have fanfics written about them xD.

+quote of the film.
Jack: You got so much of your mother in you, you know that?
Nim Rusoe: That's a good thing, right?
Jack: Yeah, good. Sure. Unfortunately I could never win a fight with her, either.

Drillbit Taylor Review

+about. Three kids hire a low-budget bodyguard to protect them from the playground bully. imdb//trailer

+my opinion. I actually really enjoyed this film - it was sweet and funny and the actors all worked well together. Although, I have to say I'm a little bit creeped out by how similar the kids were to the teens in Superbad. It's definitely one of those films that is so completely messed up that it just about works ;) Loved seeing Josh Peck on the big screen - but it took me a little while to recognize him - BOY does he look different to his Drake and Josh days!

+qotf. Emmit's not a hobbit, I don't think -- Drillbit

Rant

I hate people who turn up to lectures and then proceed to either talk or sit on their laptops throughout said lecture despite the fact that they are failing, and the lecturer was discussing a past test and a past assignment. And then they have the nerve to complain about how boring/useless the lecture is.

Dr Seuss' Horton Hears A Who Review

+about. Horton the Elephant struggles to protect a microscopic community from his neighbors who refuse to believe it exists.

+my opinion. A very sweet and funny film, definitely a great one for the kids. Probably one of the better animated films that I've seen in a long time. It had a great plot that kept you entertained until the very end. I don't really remember any Dr Suess books from when I was little, but I did love that they included lines from the book throughout the movie, without overdoing it at all.

Definitely, Maybe Review

+about. A political consultant tries to explain his impending divorce and past relationships to his 11-year-old daughter.

+my opinion. Very cute film, mostly predictable but does have a little twist at the end. And while it was mostly sweet and funny, there were a few heart wrenching scenes with Will and Maya near the end. I love Abigail Breslin, and this film only made me love her more - she was fantastic. I liked that this film was a little bit different to your typical love story, and that helped it to seem so much more real to me. Of course, it was still a little bit predictable, if you just payed attention to how much time was spent on each of the three "girlfriends". Only improvement would be to have more scenes with just Will and Maya, but I guess I can kinda understand that they couldn't divert from the main storyline for too long...

+qotf. Pretty much anything said by Maya xD

College Road Trip

+about. When an overachieving high school student decides to travel around the country to choose the perfect college, her overprotective cop father also decides to accompany her in order to keep her on the straight and narrow.

+my opinion. Very, very weird and not necessarily in a good way. It just seemed a bit unrealistic overall (but maybe that was the point?). I mean, her Dad was so concerned about her getting into danger at College, but boys never even crossed his mind...? Instead he just worried about her getting murdered... Seriously!? Hate to say this, because I've got nothing against Raven, but that song is awful. Loved seeing Lucas Grabeel though. And the little kid, played by Eshaya Draper and his pig xD.

LJ and a Challenge

I have decided that due to my lack of activity here lately, I'm going to challenge myself to post atleast once a daily for the next month.

And to kick it off: introducing my new livejournal!

No, I'm certainly not switching websites, I will be using my livejournal to post fanfiction challenges.

Anyway, that's it for today (hey - I've got to start somewhere!).
